Ahhh yes, clarity. It’s truly a beautiful thing. It has the power to eliminate anxiety, inject confidence, and inspire us into action. I’d go as far to say that most of our worries, fears, and doubts would instantly vanish if we’d only spend a little more time and energy on seeking clarity on a daily basis.
I think of clarity as a light bulb. I don’t care how strong, confident, or energetic you are, if I place you in a pitch black building you’ve never been in, filled with walls, doors, and obstacles, then ask you to run from one side of the building to the other, you’re not going to make it very far. In fact you’ll probably not run at all, and bounce of a wall or table fairly quickly. You’re most likely going to cautiously tip toe around with your arms out. Now let me sprinkle in a creepy sound coming from somewhere ‘over there’ and we have a perfect recipe for a fear inducing horror film.
Even if our goal is to ‘find an exit’, we’re still not sure where that exit is. Chances are we’ll spend hours tip toeing around, avoiding that creepy sound, trying to find an exit with absolutely no rhyme or reason for why we’re going left and not right.
But if we were to simply flick a light switch on and illuminate the room, you’d get instant confidence. You’d see arrows pointing to the exit. Thus, avoiding obstacles and navigating through the building would become easy. We discover that creepy sound in the building which had us terrified of a monster was just a paper copy machine left on that kept resetting itself every few minutes.
My point is, stop navigating in the pitch black within your coaching business.
